PISCES NEW MOON: The night sky is at its darkest this week, as the Moon wanes, then aligns with the Sun, then begins its waxing phase. Our new lunar cycle begins when the two luminaries conjoin in Pisces at 4:44 p.m. PST this Thursday, February 27.

This New Moon invites us to move into the next four weeks with an openness to the mystical and a willingness to align with a higher ideal. It supports new beginnings in our spiritual practice, in creative visioning, and in expressing compassion in our daily lives.

Since Pisces is the last of the twelve signs of the zodiac, this lunar cycle also represents a time of completion. It calls us to reflect on what has been, to release and forgive as needed, and to surrender to the callings of our Soul—as compared to following the dictates of the mind and ego.

Jupiter in Gemini is in square aspect to the New Moon, which will likely increase mental restlessness and also affect the nervous system. The need to know and to gather or share information can feel urgent. However, we will need to watch for signs of data overload and a tendency to let our minds (or our mouths) run away with us. Pausing to breathe and to count to five (at least) is advisable before making a comment or a judgment.

ECLIPSE SEASON BEGINS: This week's New Moon has extra significance since it marks the beginning of our first Eclipse Season of 2025. Astrologers have differing opinions about the starting point of these seasons; I usually sense that Eclipse Season begins with the lunation that precedes the first eclipse. Honoring this week's New Moon as the doorway to Eclipse Season seems especially appropriate since the climax of this lunar cycle—in just two weeks' time!—will be a powerful Total Lunar Eclipse.

As we integrate the Pisces New Moon energies, and also begin to work with the influence of the March 13 eclipse, life will take on a very surreal quality and time will become even more elusive and malleable. We may feel a sense of urgency, for no apparent reason.

Events can unfold quickly and have greater impact than usual around the time of eclipses, and they may seem "karmic" in nature. Emotions are heightened and nervous energy is elevated. It can be hard to focus on more than just the needs of the present moment. We might also experience symptoms such as appetite changes and unusual aches and pains; these are usually related to a deep clearing process on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

VENUS STATIONS RETROGRADE: The planet named for the goddess of Love and Beauty comes to a standstill next Saturday, March 1. This date marks the beginning of Venus' retrograde period, which will last until April 12.

During the weeks that Venus appears to be moving backward through the sky, we are called to reflect on what—and who—we truly value and love. Relationships from the past may come forward for review, either in waking life or in the dream state. This is a good time for a "relationship autopsy," which can help us understand both our role and another's role in the failure or success of a partnership. Since Venus also rules financial matters, we could also be reassessing investments or purchases on the physical level during this time.

Astrological wisdom advises that we not make major decisions regarding relationships or finances while Venus is retrograde. These weeks are meant to be a time of introspection, when we get in touch with what we really need and what will be most fulfilling in these areas of our lives going forward.

ASPECTS THIS WEEK: Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important planetary aspects, day by day:

Monday
No major aspects are exact today.

Tuesday
Mercury conjunct Saturn: We see situations more realistically today. The mind could be a bit worried or pessimistic. Conversations focus on serious matters.

Wednesday
No major aspects are exact today.Thursday
Mercury sextile Uranus: Insights and new ideas are possible since the mind is open to receiving higher level information.
Sun semisquare Eris: People may be somewhat self-centered and reactive with this minor aspect.
New Moon: A new lunar cycle begins at 4:44 p.m. PST today, when the Sun and Moon align at 09°40' Pisces.

Friday
No major aspects are exact today.

Saturday
Mars sesquiquadrate Ceres: We may feel very protective of ourselves, our security, and our loved ones today. This can result in being emotionally reactive and overly defensive.
Mercury conjunct North Node: The mind is intuitive and idealistic. We may think about, write about, or be drawn to talk about our spiritual vision and our higher callings.
Venus stations retrograde: Venus goes retrograde while in Aries on March 1. The planet regresses into Pisces on March 27, stations direct on April 12, and re-enters Aries on April 30.

Sunday
Mercury conjunct Neptune: The imagination and intuition are strong today, as our minds are especially open to the spiritual and creative realms. We may not accomplish much on a practical level, since our attention to details is not strong, but meditations and introspection are supported.
Sun square Jupiter: The desire to see only what we wish to see can interfere with seeing the truth of a situation. People may be very opinionated, judgmental, or moralistic.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK (February 24 to March 2):

Your vital energy is strong this year, and you are inspired to take action to support your emotional and spiritual well-being. This can include bringing your home or work environment into alignment with your creative vision. However, you may have blind spots that allow you to see only your own needs. There also may be times that you are overly idealistic, so that you go overboard in some way and ignore the all-important details of a project. In these cases, it is helpful to remember to ground and center yourself before making decisions, and to be open to feedback from others.
